Meet the Founder
Ying (Yingchun Liu), MSc.,Founder & Chief Chemist
Suncoat's founder Ying Chun Liu, Ying for short, holds a BSc degree in polymer chemistry from Nanjing University, Nanjing, China, and MSc degree in organic chemistry from The University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Ying was also a Ph.D candidate at University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, in organic / biopolymer chemistry during 1993-1995. Before starting Suncoat in 2002, Ying worked in Ontario, Canada for many years as a Formulation Chemist, Senior Coatings Chemist and Technical Director for industrial coatings and polymer resins manufacturers.

Ying starts her day with a 5km run through the streets of her neighborhood, setting a positive tone for her active lifestyle. But that's just the warm-up - Ying harbors a deep passion for hiking. This love for adventure has taken her to some beautiful and remarkable places, such as conquering the rim-to-rim hike at the Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA, not just once but twice in 2016 and 2017.

Ying's love for hiking extended further in 2022 when she embarked on an epic 8-day hiking expedition. This time, she embraced the breathtaking beauty of the Tour de Mont Blanc trail, navigating its winding paths and taking her to France, Switzerland, and Italy. With many more travel plans to come, this is just the tip of the iceberg for Ying's enthusiasm for the great outdoors!

Since 2002
Suncoat first entered the beauty market in 2002 when our founder and chemist Yingchun Liu, Ying for short, whose background includes both polymer chemistry and organic chemistry, found herself in a predicament: her seven year-old daughter wanted to experiment with nail polish. Yet Ying felt the bevy of hazardous chemicals in nail polish, which includes formaldehyde, toluene and acetates, posed too great a risk to her health. So taking to task her expertise in chemistry as well as her artistic eye for creativity, Ying created a revolutionary new formula of water-based, non-toxic nail polish, designed to provide the same quality and finish as the conventional stuff, but without any unsafe chemicals.

Suncoat is the pioneer in non-toxic nail polish, blazing the trail of natural beauty, fusing nature with technology to create innovative products founded on the balance of vegan, mineral-based ingredients and water, one of the principal components of our bodies. By putting nature back into nail polish, we’re motivating people to do the same in other aspects of their lives, thus inspiring a little more harmony back into the world.
