Committed to quality and exceptional customer service, Leena Shrestha-Menon founded The Pen Boutique to “listen to our customers and respond to their needs.” From humble beginnings in a small shop in Columbia, Maryland, over the past decade we have grown into a world leader in the retail of luxury writing instruments and personalized gifts.

Pen Boutique is honored to have been selected by Montblanc for its in-store shopping experience and signature showroom in our Columbia, Maryland store. We are also proud to offer shopping experiences at Graf von Faber-Castell, Cross, Visconti, Waterman, Lamy, and Parker. This is the only store in the United States that brings together all of these prestigious shopping showrooms under one roof.

I started this idea in 2004 when I was unemployed and a mother of one. I loved beautiful pens and the way fountain pens wrote and glided on paper. Many people succeed in their chosen field because it gives them something to look forward to every day, and I wanted to do something similar. Whenever I was looking for something I was passionate about, I always came back to the beautiful pens, the customers I met, and the joy of explaining the intricacies of different pens. And so The Pen Boutique was born. I did. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. Distributors were skeptical, mall management wasn’t impressed with beautiful pens, and financiers thought I was crazy. After eight bank rejections, we found a great financier who was passionate about beautiful pens and believed in our business plan. We got the loan, and we were off! From the start, the focus was on customer service and integration into the writing community. I firmly believe that better customer service attracts attention and builds loyalty. That was our motto then, and it still is. Over the years, at Pen Boutique, we have been blessed with great customers and a great team. We love selling quality writing instruments, and more than that, we educate the younger generation about the importance of fountain pens and writing on paper from a young age. Stella Services conducted an anonymous customer satisfaction survey and we scored excellent!

For the 10th consecutive year, we have received the “Best of the Columbia” award in the Boutique category.

We have been interviewed by the press numerous times.

Howard County has our store in its women-owned business success story.

We have been recognized by the American Retail Association as a Best Company in Columbia from 2007 to 2019 consecutively.

Our stores include Montblanc shop-in-shop, Graf von Faber-Castell shop-in-shop, Lamy Shop-in-shop, Cross premium products shop-in-shop.

We do charity work as part of our business and partner with the Howard County Library to encourage children to use pens and fountain pens.

We support early detection of breast cancer through our partnership with ABCF (American Breast Cancer Fund). 50% of the profits from the Parker Pink Jotter "I am a SURVIVORS" will be donated to ABCF.
