Born from a personal quest for better hair care, Firsthand has evolved into a brand dedicated to mindful personal care. We believe that by infusing beauty, care & aspiration into daily life, you can unearth potential that’s already in your nature—your dreams, passions & ambitions.

Our journey began with a simple idea: to create products that are effective, work in harmony with our bodies, and are kind to the planet. Through countless iterations, we developed a range of products that are formulated with the highest-quality ingredients and produced with care.

We're proud to be an independent brand that formulates and produces every product in our own manufacturing facility. This allows us to prioritize quality, sustainability, and transparency at every step.

2016: A Problem
Firsthand began with a problem that led to a formula. The hair stylers we were using daily were contributing to scalp irritation, redness, and inflammation. After more than 50 iterations, we developed our first formula in a kitchen—a styler that worked better than mass-market options, and was made with gentle ingredients derived from plants, minerals, and other natural sources.

2017: A Leap
With our winning formula in hand, we began to build a small but loyal customer base. Then we took the plunge—quitting our day jobs and renting a small garage space to begin scaling. We set up production, added a variety of small-batch apothecary-style products, and nervously wondered how we'd make ends meet.

2018-2020: Change
After trial and error, went honed in on Hair Styling and Hair Care made from high-quality ingredients with sustainability in mind. We rebuilt our supply chain from scratch, working directly with manufacturers and producers to source packaging and ingredients. We developed custom, 100% post-consumer recycled plastic packaging—making us one of the first companies in our industry to do so.

2021-2023: Growth
As we emerged from the pandemic, our landscape shifted dramatically. Our supply chain control offered us a unique opportunity during the pandemic-induced volatility. So we doubled-down and invested heavily in our in-house manufacturing. We significantly scaled up our operations and focused on expanding our product line and launching Body Care. We began to partner with a range of businesses, from small boutiques to hotels to salons & barber shops.

2024: Elevated by Nature
We weren’t done evolving—we had so much more to offer. With a lineup of incredible formulas, we explored where we wanted to take the brand. We saw an opportunity to build a brand with rich, textured positioning and elevated formulas, breaking away from the minimalist, monochrome we’ve become accustomed to. Our ability to control both formulation and manufacturing presented a unique opportunity. We took much of 2024 to reimagine Firsthand—expanding our product line and developing a unique visual brand.
