My Story
I’m Amanda King, a photographer who has found endless inspiration on our sheep and beef farm in Hororata, an hour west of Christchurch, New Zealand. What began as family photography has grown into a passion for capturing the raw strength and quiet beauty of rural life.

Despite the old saying that you should never work with children or animals, I’ve always done just that. My journey began photographing families, but over time I was drawn more and more to the subjects right in front of me — enormous Angus bulls, bison, sheep, as well as the botanicals, seascapes, and landscapes that frame their world. These moments have become the heart of my limited edition print collections.

Life on our 1,100-hectare farm, which belongs to my husband Fraser’s family, is a far cry from my upbringing in the Brisbane suburbs. Here, I find myself endlessly inspired — whether I’m wandering the paddocks with my camera, following the light across the Canterbury Plains, or pausing to capture the delicate beauty of a flower. When I’m not out shooting, I’m busy being mum to Greta (10) and Dudley (8), who often join me on little adventures around the farm.

My prints have travelled far beyond New Zealand and Australia, finding homes in the UK, Europe, Sweden, France, Saudi Arabia, and even restaurants in Minnesota and a brewery in Texas. Each piece carries with it a story of this land and the life lived here.

Along the way, my work has been featured in publications including Haven Magazine, Your Home and Garden, Latitude, Angus Magazine, Metropol, and most recently, the NZ Women’s Weekly.

For me, photography isn’t just about taking a picture — it’s about capturing a sense of place, strength, and connection. Every print I create is an invitation to bring a piece of rural New Zealand into your home.
